Project Description

The West Australian Institute of Sport provides a daily training environment for 285 high-performance athletes over 28 sports with 14 dedicated programs.

The previous facilities, office accommodation, strength and conditioning, recovery and rehabilitation areas were inadequate for the current needs of WAIS and were not suitable for future expansion. The inadequacy was a combination of limited space, limited amenities and sub-standard conditions.

Through the development of the new high-performance service centre, WAIS now delivers high performance training and support for athletes within a purpose needs environment, provide office accommodation for WAIS employees and supporting infrastructure such as sports science and testing facilities.

Our Role

As Project Manager, NS Projects was appointed to manage the entire development including:

  • Procurement advice,
  • Risk management,
  • Design and programme management,
  • Contractor procurement
  • Project management services.

Key Outcomes

The main outcomes for the new WAIS facility are:

  • Increased size and functionality of the strength and conditioning facility;
  • Increased number, size and functionality of appropriate sport science testing environments;
  • Provision of appropriate recovery and rehabilitation facilities;
  • Improved access for disabled and injured athletes;
  • Modern laboratories for research and athlete testing;
  • New infrastructure such as the multi-purpose, runway and hydrotherapy areas; and
  • Increased staff accommodation including meeting and training rooms.
  • Delivery within the fixed budget allowance.
