UWA Clinical Training and Education Centre (CTEC)

Project Description

The refurbishment of the mortuary facility and expansion of the capacity within the Anatomy and Human Biology Building at the University of Western Australia’s faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Services to enable enhanced education outcomes.

Our Role

NS Projects’ role on this sensitive project was firstly to assess the needs of the key stakeholders at the Clinical Training and Education Centre (CTEC) and Anatomy and Human Biology Department. From this analysis a project brief and budget was established,  key consultants and project builder appointed, and the appropriate  procurement method established.

A significant aspect of the project was the replacement of the existing outdated mortuary freezer and air conditioning system and  the procurement of custom made mortuary equipment. NS Projects was able to facilitate the design of the equipment in consideration of the constraints of the freezer size and staff requirements. The application of a staged approach to the installation resulted in minimal disruption to the operation of this world-class facility.

NS Projects also negotiated with staff to reduce scope creep to maintain budget.

Challenges Overcome

  • Successful interpretation of the user group requirements.
  • Installation of a freezer large enough to future proof the building for at least ten years.
  • Programming the works to be completed over the UWA summer break.
  • Achieving the scope of work with the minimum amount of disruption to centre staff.
  • Achieving the scope of work within the budget specified by UWA.
