ECU Building 34: Student Services

Project Description

NS Projects was engaged by ECU in early 2011, initially to assist with defining the project scope prior to managing the design and delivery phases of this essential facility at the Joondalup campus. The purpose of the centre is to co-locate student support services in one central location and to create a focal point for student life on campus. The project provides 10,500 sqm of high quality university office accommodation, in addition to a range of campus amenities and public open spaces plus rationalisation or existing campus parking and services infrastructure.

Our Role

NS Projects provided full project management and superintendent services to ECU taking the project from definition and project feasibility stage through to contract administration. This has included stakeholder management, user group engagement, design management, scope definition, procurement of consultants and contractors, risk and value management.

Construction works commenced in May 2012 with overall completion scheduled for the latter part of 2014. The facility will open in January 2015 for student admissions.

Challenges Overcome

  • A high-profile project involving management of multiple user groups/stakeholders and effective communication management. Close liaison with existing campus management required, with site to be fully operational throughout the project.
  • Technologically advanced and innovative design incorporating range of design innovations and creative solutions.
  • Staged delivery of the project incorporating separate forward works contract, and delivery of the main construction incorporating a number of separable portions so as to minimise disruption of the operating university campus.
